形態特徵

Evergreen trees to ca. 22 m high, trunks to 1 m across; bark tea-brown; branchlets grayish-black.
Leaves oblong to somewhat obovate, 7–10.8 cm long, 2.9–3.7 cm wide, acuminate at apex, obtuse at base, serrate from middle toward apex along margins, coriaceous, glabrous, lustrous and puberulent beneath when young, midrib furrowed above, elevated beneath, lateral veins 8–12 pairs; petioles 2–2.7 cm long.
Staminate flowers in catkins or spikes, 2–3.5 mm long, 1.5–2.5 mm across; perianth 5–6-lobed, hairy outside; stamens 5–7 (4–9), filaments 2 mm long, anthers 0.9 mm long. Pistillate flowers with ovary 3-celled, styles 3, stigmas enlarged.
Cupules cup-shaped, 1–1.7 cm long, 1.6–1.9 cm across, sericeous-tomentose, with scales in 7–10 concentric rings; nuts globose to ellipsoid, 1.8–2.2 cm long, 1.5–1.7 cm across.

物候

Staminate flowers blooming in April; fruits maturing from October to November.

分布

台灣 : occurring between 1,600 and 2,400 m altitude throughout the central mountains of the island, often forming pure stands.
